NCTC Internship Program

The 2008 NCTC Internship program has concluded and we're happy to report another successful year. Here is some feedback from companies that participated this year:
  • "I appreciated the fact that the NCTC helped us find our Intern after we struggled to find someone. We have hired her full time!"   Michele Wright, NetVentures Corporation

  • "This program gave us the opportunity to bring in the extra help we needed to get some internal projects done that we've been putting off for months."  Jim Schweitzer, Vision Point Systems

  • "The support is helpful and the intern was a great addition to the support of our office. He made contacts in the area by attending the Tech & Toast meetings and is considering full time employment with a local company."  Mark Coburn, Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties

  • "The NCTC Internship Program is terrific - both the intern and our company benefited from the experience and the free ticket to the Tech & Toast program allowed the intern to network and learn about other NCTC companies."  Sam English, Attention Point

  • "We were very pleased with the program and hope to employ our intern for an extended period of time."  Frank Pittard, Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore

2008 NCTC Internship Program Details

In a cooperative effort with the City of Roanoke and Roanoke County, the NCTC sponsors an annual internship grant program. The purpose of this program is to facilitate connections between students and local technology companies. The benefits are many to the employer and to the student. Further, these internships enhance the possibility of keeping promising students in the area after graduation.
Short and long term benefits:
Last year we hired an intern through the NCTC Internship program. It has worked out very well for us. Over the summer we were able to make progress in some areas where we otherwise wouldn’t have had the manpower. We’ve continued to use our NCTC intern throughout the school year on a part-time basis and we hope to hire him full-time when he graduates. If so, we’ll have a new employee with the experience to hit the ground running.
